Here Jennie defies gravity for the sake of a photograph...

Sweating Stars: Jennie Belle Star
For a short while in the early '80s, The Belle Stars were massively successful. An all-girl group, they were only rivalled by Bananarama in the charts. Although they wrote their own songs and played their own instruments, most of their successes were cover versions of old hits such as Iko Iko and The Clapping Song. However, their most memorable hit of all was one of their own compositions: Sign Of the Times.

Kick those legs apart, gal! No idea why this photo is taken at such a funny angle. Either I thought it looked arty or I was drunk at the time....

Hmmmm... looks painful. Guess it must be good for you then.

ah... the tasteful 'in the mirror' shot. I get the impression that Jennie is gritting her teeth and thinking, "Hurry up and take this photo so I can go and get a shower and have a refreshing pint of Old Peculiar..."

On this page you can see some previously unpublished photographs of Belle Stars singer, Jennie McKaown (popularlyknown as 'Jennie Belle Star') twisting herself into various improbable positions for the sake of a 1982 photo-shoot on stars at exercise. I photographed Jennie in a fitness studio in Covent garden and the main picture, on the left, was taken in the Covent Garden covered market with Jennie sitting on a vegetable cart!
